We live in a world dominated by numbers, whether it is commodity prices, promotional discounts, or the number of followers and likes on social media, these numbers are always influencing our thinking and decision-making. Especially when we are faced with discounted prices, it is often difficult to resist the temptation, and our rationality seems to be obscured by these figures. However, there is an art that can help us not be swayed by discounted prices, and that is to think clearly.

Sober thinking is a way of thinking beyond superficial figures. It requires us not to be swayed by external prices, but to evaluate the value of things from a deeper perspective. Let's explore a few ways to develop the ability to think clearly despite the allure of discounting.

First of all, we need to learn to call it the contrast effect. It is a psychological phenomenon that, when we are faced with two or more options, we often make a decision by comparing them. When we see a discounted price on an item, we tend to compare it to the original price and think it's a good deal. However, this comparison often leads us to lose sight of our true needs and values. Therefore, we should learn to ask ourselves, does this product really meet our needs? Is its value based solely on discounted numbers?
